ThriveON has been supporting newcomer individuals and families since 2023. We’re a soft-landing settlement support provider that helps people move from the uncertainty of arrival to the confidence of belonging.

Coming to a new country is one of the biggest leaps a person can take. It’s exciting and full of possibility—and at the same time, it’s unfamiliar, complex, and often overwhelming. Families arrive ready to build new lives, but what they need most in those early days is stability: a sense that the ground beneath them is solid and that someone is in their corner.

That’s what ThriveON provides. We deliver hands-on, people-centred settlement support that helps newcomer families get oriented, connected, and set up for long-term success in their new community. We work alongside employers and community partners to help families put down strong, lasting roots.

About the opportunity

We’re expanding in Thunder Bay. As we build new partnerships with employers across the region, we’re looking to bring on local contractors to support newcomer families as arrivals come in.

This role is occasional and on-call to start. Hours will vary based on family arrivals and active settlement needs. In some weeks, there may be no hours. As our presence in the region grows, there’s strong potential for this to expand into more consistent hours.

In this role, you’ll be a steady presence for families during a pivotal moment in their lives. You’ll help facilitate customized settlement plans—meeting families where they are, understanding what each of them needs, and guiding them through the many moving pieces of settling into a new community. No two families are the same, and no two days will be either. It’s hands-on work where you’ll see the difference you make in real time.

Who you are

You’re someone who knows Thunder Bay well and genuinely cares about helping newcomers feel at home. You’re calm under pressure, practical, and resourceful—the kind of person who can figure things out, make the right connections, and help a family feel supported even when plans change.

You’re comfortable working independently in the community, and you’re also consistent about communicating updates so the ThriveON team stays aligned and families receive coordinated support.

What you’ll do

• Welcome and support newcomer individuals and families as they arrive in Thunder Bay

• Help coordinate and deliver customized settlement plans based on each family’s needs

• Support practical settlement tasks (examples may include community orientation, banking/phone setup, school registration support, transportation coordination, and connecting families to local services)

• Build trusted relationships with families and provide calm, steady guidance during their first weeks and months

• Connect families to community resources and help them build routines, confidence, and a sense of belonging

• Communicate clearly with the ThriveON team on progress, needs, and next steps

• Document key updates and outcomes so support is consistent and coordinated

• Strong familiarity with the Thunder Bay community (local knowledge and connections are essential)

• Genuine empathy and compassion, with a warm, patient approach to supporting families through major life transitions

• Creativity and resourcefulness—you find solutions and make connections even when there’s no clear playbook

• Comfort thinking on your feet and adapting as situations shift

• A roll-up-your-sleeves mindset—you’re willing to help with whatever the moment calls for, big or small

• Flexibility and responsiveness (this role is occasional/on-call to start, based on arrivals)

• Ability to work independently while staying collaborative, communicative, and accountable

• Strong organization and follow-through (you keep track of details and close loops)

• A real belief in the value of welcoming newcomers and helping them thrive
